An AeroPress is one of the most versatile and forgiving manual brewing devices on the market.  An AeroPress comes with a 1) brewing chamber, 2) a plunger, 3) a cap, 4) 350 paper filters (metal filters can be purchased separately), 5) a scoop, and 6) a stirring paddle.  At the most basic level, an AeroPress is an “immersion” brewing device similar to a French Press in that ground coffee and water are combined in the brewing chamber and allowed to steep.  An AeroPress differs from a French Press in that the brewer can be used in two positions: upright or inverted (plunger on the bottom).  An AeroPress also differs from a French Press in that once the coffee has steeped for whatever period of time you prefer, you gently press down the plunger and use pressure to press the brewed coffee through a filter into your cup or decanter.  Clean up is much easier than a French Press.  You merely unscrew the cap, remove (reuse/discard) the filter if you prefer, press the coffee puck out, and rinse with water.  An AeroPress also can be used as an immersion drip brewer.
